LIBRARIAN SPECIALIST - ELEMENTARY
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: A certified teacher with an ND (Library Media) or NQ (School Librarian Specialist) endorsement is preferred. Additionally, a teacher who holds the K-5 all subjects (ZG) endorsement can be assigned as a school librarian in a K-5 setting. Experience in a school or library setting is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 7.0 Hours/Day (7:35 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. with ½ hour unpaid lunch). Teacher schedule and calendar.
SALARY: Teacher salary schedule - dependent upon years of experience as a certified teacher/librarian.
LOCATION: West Ward Elementary - will shift to the brand new Allegan Elementary School in Fall 2026.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide assistance to all grade level classes that support library skills and help with literacy development
- Desire and ability to work with elementary students in an educational setting
- May need to teach a "special" library/reading elective opportunity in the event of extra sections within a grade level
- Knowledge of Follett/Destiny Library Manager system for maintaining proper inventory of books and devices
- Ability to oversee library media assistants
- Ability to communicate well with staff, students and parents
- Provides oversight and leadership to media assistants responsible for checking out materials to students
- Knowledge and experience with technology sources highly recommended (computers and devices, document cameras, smart boards, web browsers, Internet)
- Provides oversight and leadership in the organization of books and resources, including curricular materials when necessary
- Works with the the library media assistants to coordinate the School's Book Fair (to include working a few evening Book Fair events)
- Provide oversight and leadership in the operation of the school's book vending machine
- Other duties as assigned
