Primary Purpose:
Position Summary: The Student Services Reference Librarian and Instructor in Law position p rovide s reference support to the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Law, as well as other community patrons . Serving as a member of the Law Library Reference Team , the Student Services Reference Librarian will also specifically support student program ming, research services, and student journals at the College . They will also participate in teaching as an adjunct professor. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Work as part of the Law Library Reference Team in the regular rotation of reference desk shift s , which involves providing professional reference, research, and instructional services to the law school community in-person and virtually .

Se rve as a Law Library Liaison to members of the College of Law faculty and departments.

Supervise the Law Library’s student employees, including interviewing and hiring students and the timely and accurate completion of employment paperwork . Work collaborative with the Student Employment Coordinator and HR.

Support student - run journals , as well as moot court and trial teams , including trainings , the creat ion of online guides, and other reference and research assistance as needed.

Manage the borrowing of interlibrary loan materials for students and student-run journals .

Along with the Law Library Reference Team, p lan and participate in Law Library instruction and research programs for faculty , staff, and students.

Work with Law Library administration to create, evaluate, and promote innovative library services, resources, and programming, with an emphasis on students.

Market Law Library programming, resources, and services , including the creation of social media content.

Work with other campus departments in using library resources and space for their programming, including marketing.

Meet individually with students to assist with research papers, directed or independent research , and other research projects.

Participate in collection development decisions and assessment , including the development of student wellness resources .

Assist with the creation and maintenance of online research guides , including ones specifically for student services and resources .

Assist with classroom presentations, in-person and virtually.
-
Assist with the creat ion of online research tutorials.

Assist with identifying needs and services for the law school community , as well as the planning and implementation of t hose services and programs.

Assist with special library projects as identified by the Law Library Director and Law Library Associate Director.

Regularly teach Advanced Legal Research .

Work with the Law Library Reference Team to propose research courses that would enhance the College of Law curriculum and participate in the teaching of those courses.

Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.

Other duties as assigned .
Required Skills
-
MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Thorough understanding of legal research principles and the use of legal databases, including Westlaw, Lexis, HeinOnline , and others

Familiarity with use of an ILS, particularly WMS
-
Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence tools and their use in legal research.

Work Environment: Regular hours Monday-Friday, 10 :30 am- 7 pm , though there is some flexibility . Work duties performed primarily in temperature-controlled environment; with high customer interaction . Bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, and long hours at a desk . Lifting occasionally up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Required Experience
-
JD from an ABA accredited law school .

MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited library school, or enrollment in such a program.

Should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills .

S trong customer service skills.

Ability to work collaboratively as a positive team player.

Good organization skills, flexibility, the ability to multi-task, sound judgment and a high level of interpersonal skills are required .

Must be detail-oriented with excellent follow-through.

Flexibility to work outside the normal assigned schedule when requested .

Some travel may be required .

Academic law library experience preferred.
