We are hiring a new Editor to be based out of our Watertown, Wisconsin office. This individual will be responsible for day-to-day management of the Watertown Daily Times, a Monday-through-Friday daily newspaper that has served Jefferson and Dodge Counties since 1895. This position reports to Tim Sullivan, the outgoing Editor of the Daily Times, who has been promoted to Regional Editor, managing both personnel and the editorial direction of our titles in Southern Wisconsin.
The ideal candidate has a passion for journalism and an eye for what is newsworthy - and what will capture the attention of the community. Understanding what it means to not only cover a small city but to become a part of it, and serving as the face of a community institution will be important. Managing a small but dynamic newsroom and getting the most out of reporters will be crucial. An understanding of the dynamics between digital and print publishing - and being able to excel in both - is a necessity.
As this individual grows with the company, the opportunity to take on responsibility with additional titles in the region is available to high achievers.
AMM publishes eight titles in Southern Wisconsin. In all of our communities, readers want useful, local content that enriches their lives and their communities. We need stories about our neighbors, our businesses, our governments and local trends.
Experience at a daily newspaper is helpful but not required. Qualifications include reporting experience, ability to edit for clean copy and AP style, and the ability to manage a team of reporters constructively. The ability to explore stories beyond day-one depth and seek out enterprise reporting opportunities will serve the Editor well. Collaboration with other managers in the region is necessary.
