The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Role Overview:

This position will serve as a Communications Intern for the Communications Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support.

Hourly Rate:

The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor’s degree.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Assist with monthly social media content calendar

Develop social media campaigns and graphics

Create new web page layouts

Produce and analyze Google Analytics reports

Develop short videos

Internal Communications Projects

Event Coordination

Assist with writing and editing articles

What You'll Need for Success:

Working toward a bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or related field

Relevant work experience preferred

Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT

Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations

Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process

Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports

Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to handle multiple projects

Experience with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Good research and writing skills

Experience with website CMS

Experience with video production

Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts

Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
