Job Summary

POSITION PURPOSE

This position will float between the Brooklyn Park and the Eden Prairie Campuses.

Under general supervision, the Library Technician organizes, maintains, and delivers library services and provides technical and instructional support to patrons in the use of library resources. This includes cataloging new library resources, serving as the technical vendor contact for online databases and access services, maintaining electronic collections through title list updates and other detailed metadata procedures, collecting database usage statistics, and assisting students with technology. This role will direct students, faculty, and staff to the academic librarian, when appropriate. The Library Technician will be located at Hennepin Technical College's Eden Prairie campus 3 days per week, providing coverage at HTC's Brooklyn Park Campus 2 days per week and as needed.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS

1. Provide assistance and instruction on the use of library resources, services, and technology to library patrons including faculty, staff, and students of the college. This includes assisting students with accessing reference materials, online databases, general computer operations, password resets, etc.

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 50%

2. Assist the Librarian with coordination of the circulation of library materials, processing new materials, maintaining library collections and inventories, and daily operations of the library.

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 25%

3. Assist in the hiring, training, evaluating, and direction of work of student employees to ensure the successful function of library services.

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 10%

4. Assist the Librarian with programming events and workshops for student success.

Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 10%

5. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

Priority: Secondary Percent of Time: 5%

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of library classification system(s) and standard library reference tools sufficient to assist clients in locating materials to support academic learning. Two (2) years of experience using an integrated library system and associated databases (e.g., Alma and/or OCLC). Ability to operate personal computers, use various software and web-based applications, and other office equipment to locate catalog information, word processing documents, complete forms, and complete reports. Communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds; to train, direct and evaluate the work of student clerical staff; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working in an academic library, preferably with a customer service focus. Two (2) years of college coursework or a certificate in library information technology, information media, or an equivalent program. Familiarity with current cataloging standards and resource tools sufficient to make decisions about the cataloging of materials. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated cross-cultural knowledge that facilitates positive working relationships in a diverse campus community. Ability to work independently and address issues that arise on own initiative. Ability to address tasks in an organized and systematic way and to prioritize multiple tasks appropriately. Ability to apply a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy to tasks. OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Hennepin Technical College is currently unable to sponsor work visas or green card applications due to regulatory complexity, budget constraints, and alignment with our current hiring strategy. Applicant must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
