Summary
The Shrewsbury Public Library, a cornerstone of civic life in our thriving community of over 38,000 residents, is seeking a Library Professional Associate - Interlibrary Loan Librarian to play a key role in managing and advancing our materials access and collection development services. Reporting to the Manager of Access Services, this is an exciting opportunity for an organized and collaborative professional who will manage complex interlibrary loan operations across the CW MARS consortium and state-wide networks. Over the past year alone, our patrons utilized our interlibrary loan service to borrow over 40,000 items from other libraries, and loaned over 15,000 items out to other libraries!
Our Library saw over 290,000 visitors
over the past year, and our patrons borrowed
383,966 books, magazines, audio, video, and other physical items . This is the perfect opportunity for a librarian who is passionate about providing patrons with the resources they need to enrich their lives.
What You'll Do:
Manage effective, cost-efficient, and timely inter-library loan services across CW MARS, the Commonwealth Catalog, and other consortia. Build and manage the adult fiction collection by selecting new items, weeding old ones, analyzing circulation statistics, and managing the allocated budget. Coordinate and manage the ordering and holds system for approximately 10 book groups and procure holds for outreach patrons and schools. Assume a supervisory role during night and weekend shifts, providing leadership and ensuring smooth operation. Supervise library pages and volunteers. Provide customer service at the Circulation desk, assisting users with locating materials and resolving borrowing/lending problems. Train and support public service staff on Integrated Library System (ILS) functions to foster efficient library operations. Continuously expand professional knowledge by staying informed of current trends, issues, and best practices in public libraries. What You Bring:
A Bachelor's degree (MLIS from an ALA-accredited program preferred) A minimum of two years using Integrated Library System (ILS) software in a public library setting or equivalent Ability to foster and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with the public, staff, and external agencies, while effectively working as part of a team. Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. Enthusiasm, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset to match our high-energy team.
