Job Summary:

The Department of Professional Education and Music at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music and Music Industry. The ideal candidate will teach courses in music business and music technology, direct a commercial-music ensemble, advise students on their academic and career paths, provide applied lessons on their primary instrument, and engage in recruitment efforts for the music program. Qualifications for this role include proficiency in music technology, demonstrated commercial musicianship, and a track record in musical entrepreneurship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The selected candidate will demonstrate musical excellence, fluidity on an instrument or vocals, and a robust understanding of music business, music technology, and commercial-music performance. Additionally, he or she will show mastery with emergent technologies used for teaching, performing, and platforming music. The successful applicant will possess superior interpersonal skills, be an expert communicator, and be capable of handling requests, suggestions, and complaints. Finally, the new Assistant Professor of Music and Music Industry will be a role model for students, be committed to academic excellence, and be devoted to organization, time management, and public relations.

Duties and Responsibilities

If hired, the successful candidate will • Teach commercial-music classes and ensembles • Teach music-technology courses • Participate actively in the music industry • Collaborate with colleagues on performances, committees, and other projects • Evolve with the needs of the department • Solving problems with creative solutions • Recruit for the music unit and university • Handle fluid circumstances and shifting environments • Manage musicians of varied levels of preparedness and ability • Maintain a robust record of research • Follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the faculty and administration, as well as the Faculty Handbook

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicants should ideally hold a master's degree in music technology, or a master's in music with substantial experience in music technology and the music industry. They must possess expert knowledge of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Studio One, Logic Pro, or Pro Tools, and be fluent in techniques such as sequencing, score writing, audio recording, mixing, and mastering. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of excellence in commercial-music performance, production, or composition, and they should have experience in music marketing, publishing, and networking. Applicants must have an awareness, appreciation, and commitment to working in a rich, diverse educational environment. Significant experience in the following areas is essential : • Music technology • Music business • Artist promotion • Commercial-music performance • Concert production

Additionally, candidates must demonstrate fluency with remote-teaching technologies and be adept at delivering classes entirely in a remote environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a master's degree in music technology and five years of professional teaching experience.

The search committee will prioritize applicants who have demonstrated a record of excellence in the music business, or alternatively, hold a music-industry bachelor's degree.
