Description This position is benefits-eligible and located at Poway High School, with a 9.5-month commitment of 6 hours per day/30 hours per week, supporting Drama and Visual Arts (VAPA).

Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1). Candidates who possess a valid and current CA teaching credential OR who possess a Bachelor's Degree AND have passed the CBEST

will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification.

**We will not accept applications after the deadline** Purpose Statement The job of Instructional Assistant - Vocational Education is done for the purposes of providing instructional support to individual or small groups of students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; preparing classroom equipment and instructional materials; maintaining supplies and inventory; and providing record-keeping and clerical support to the teacher(s) and staff.

This Job reports to the Assigned Supervisor. VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS (VAPA): This position will support Drama and Visual Arts in meeting the technical needs of the creative arts across the five VAPA disciplines (dance, media arts, music, theater, and visual arts).

Examples of Duties REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.

E Monitor and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in a designated area of vocational education; assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans; assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects.

E Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials; grade student tests and assignments as directed; process program forms and applications as required; record student attendance as assigned.

E Provide classroom support to the teacher by setting up work areas and displays and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials; confer with teachers concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; report progress regarding student performance.

E Assist students by answering questions and providing proper examples, friendly attitude and general guidance.

E Prepare and maintain a variety of records related to student grades, attendance, classroom functions and assigned activities; input student attendance and other data and maintain automated records as required.

E Communicate with students, District personnel and others to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; answer telephones and provide program and classroom information as assigned.

E Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment including a copier, fax machine, overhead projector, computer and assigned software.

E Monitor inventory levels of classroom supplies as directed; assist in ordering receiving and maintaining inventory of classroom supplies.

E Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner.

E Perform related duties as assigned.

NOTE: At the end of some of the duty statements, there is an "E" which identifies essential duties required of the classification. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Passage of the PUSD examination for this classification and two years of experience working with functions related to the assigned vocational education program, and some specialized knowledge areas require additional education.

Equivalency- Possession of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent and the following: 1) completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; 2) possession of an associate's (or higher) degree; or 3) passing the District's local assessment that demonstrates the knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting state and federal requirements. Two years of experience working with functions related to the assigned vocational education program. Supplemental Information KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment, including using pertinent computer and software applications; operating industry-standard equipment relevant to Career Technical Education courses; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job satisfactorily include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; child guidance principles and practices; safe classroom practices; and basic instructional methods and techniques.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, collate data, and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with data utilizing specific, defined processes and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals, work with similar types of data, and utilize job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data may require independent interpretation, while problem-solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; communicating orally and in written form; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; monitoring and reporting student progress and behavior; and working with constant interruptions.

In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 of the official salary range designated for the position.
