Job Goal:
The Library Media Specialist manages and supervises the library media center at the assigned school; evaluates and selects new media center materials; provides educational experiences for students in the area of library media resources, including the use of problem solving and computer technology strategies. The Specialist works with teachers in the areas of planning instructional goals and objectives, effectively using technology, selecting and acquiring appropriate books, periodicals, and other multi-media resource materials and assessing the process, materials and information used.
Job Qualifications:
Possess or be eligible for certification in the area of School Library Media Specialist in Delaware. Has completed a Department approved School Library Media program which meets American Library Association Standards. Exceptional management, organization, planning, instructional delivery, leadership and technical skills and the ability to utilize differentiated instructional methods to engage students in positive learning experiences. Outstanding ability to motivate and build relationships with students to promote student achievement. Commendable history of effective leadership, extra-curricular participation, an acceptable attendance record and exemplary performance.
Essential Functions:
Manage the Library/Media Center at the assigned school(s). Develop and work collaboratively with other teachers to develop daily and unit lesson plans and a scope and sequence that are thoughtful, achievement and goal-oriented and aligned with Common Core Standards and Standards for the 21st Century Learner; maintain pace of learning and provide opportunities for student differences; check for student understanding and convey appropriately high expectations for students. Integrate technology into the library and school environment to exert leadership in the information-search process, multiple literacy's and the appropriate use of technologies. Relate lessons to the state content standards in the core content areas as well as in specific content area. Obtain and maintain sufficient reading and other materials (both print and non-print) and technology for a rich library experience for district students. Comply with policies, regulations and procedures of school district and building. Display high level professional conduct and image at all times; establish and maintain an acceptable attendance record; and participate in extra-curricular activities and/or leadership roles outside the classroom. Continue to grow as a professional educator with classes/workshops for professional development in specific areas of interest and/or need and coaching and feedback from administrators and peers. Perform other duties and/or complete special projects as assigned.
