JOB TITLE: LIBRARY/MEDIA SPECIALIST
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
To provide an instructional program that is integrated into the school's educational goals and objectives.
REPORTS TO:
Principal
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
To select and acquire materials to implement the curriculum and to meet the individual interest, ability and maturity levels of students To organize and distribute all media and audio-visual equipment for effective use To participate in curriculum planning and program development and implementation and to develop a close working relationship among teachers, principals and other media librarians To create an attractive environment and atmosphere that encourages students and teachers to use the media center To stimulate and guide students in all phases of their reading, viewing, and listening, so that they may effectively assimilate information To provide instruction in cooperation with the staff in media and resource skills To provide media center experiences to help students develop satisfactory personal relationships, social attitudes, and vocation and vocational interests To conduct with teachers and volunteer personnel (adult and student) in-service and other staff development activities in the use of audio-visual equipment and materials To acquaint the staff and students with the media collection and with new materials To assist the principal in ensuring that instructional materials and equipment are used to provide learning experiences compatible with the educational needs of students Participate as a member of the district Media/Technology Advisory Committee Coordinates school media and technology plans as chair of the school-level Media/Technology Advisory Committee
