The California Post Sports department will deliver muscular coverage of the biggest teams in town, from the locker room to the front office. Our Tech team will reveal the latest innovators and innovations that will shape the nation's future.

As part of this bold expansion into Los Angeles, we are looking for a Senior Social Media Editor to join the California Post team. Reporting into the Sr. Director of Audience Development, this role will lead the day-to-day social strategy for the California Post, overseeing a team of social editors and content creators while working closely with newsroom leadership to amplify our journalism across platforms to reach the maximum audience.

The Senior Social Media Editor will be responsible for shaping and executing a social strategy that drives engagement, builds brand awareness, and grows audience reach for the California Post. This role requires exceptional editorial judgment, a deep understanding of the ever-evolving social landscape, and the ability to translate the California Post's journalism into impactful, platform-specific storytelling that hits the mark.

Responsibilities: Oversee the California Post's social media strategy and execution, ensuring coverage is timely, creative, and aligned with editorial priorities Manage and mentor a team of social editors and content creators, fostering collaboration, creativity, and accountability Work closely with newsroom editors and reporters to amplify top stories and adapt content specifically for social platforms. Develop and enforce best practices for tone, visuals, and content packaging across platforms Monitor analytics and audience insights to refine strategy and optimize performance Anticipate and act quickly on breaking news, cultural moments, and emerging trends across platforms Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure social media supports broader audience growth and engagement goals Proactively pitch new ideas to increase visibility, engagement, and loyalty among audiences Cultivate and grow the social media audience, identifying new platforms and strategies for expansion Monitor social media for breaking news, trending topics, and user-generated content. Train and mentor staff on social media best practices, platform changes, and emerging trends Requirements:

7+ years of professional experience managing social media for a newsroom or major media brand Proven track record of building and executing strategies that drive audience growth, engagement, and high performance on major social platforms Expertise in analytics and monitoring tools such as CrowdTangle, Parse.ly, and Google Analytics, with the ability to translate insights into actionable strategy Strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in video and photo editing (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Canva) and creative, platform-specific execution Excellent editorial judgment and writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone across platforms while ensuring clarity, accuracy, and timeliness Experience managing and coaching a social team, setting goals, and fostering creativity and accountability Deep knowledge of social media trends, best practices, and emerging platforms, with the flexibility to adapt quickly as the news cycle and audience demands shift Creative and resourceful, with a strong grasp of visual storytelling and multimedia integration A strong social media presence or following is preferred. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom, multitask under pressure, and respond quickly to breaking news, including willingness to work nights and weekends as needed

Note: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week.

Pay Range: $85,000 - $95,000
