Job Summary Atlanta Black Star is seeking a
Digital News Editor
who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom and is motivated by impact and results. The ideal candidate will have sharp news judgment, strong editing skills, and the ability to move multiple stories forward under deadline pressure.
This candidate will support the News Editor and will oversee digital coverage in real time, sharpen story angles, and ensure content is optimized to reach and engage audiences. This is a role for someone who is competitive, proactive, and eager to help shape and grow our news operation.
Key Responsibilities Edit, assign, and publish news stories with speed, accuracy, and clarity. Monitor breaking news across multiple sources and move quickly to own developing stories. Guide staff writers and freelancers to elevate pitches and strengthen story framing. Ensure content is optimized for digital platforms through SEO and audience analytics. Collaborate with social media editors to maximize reach and engagement. Maintain high editorial standards while balancing speed and depth. Build and maintain strong source networks and stay ahead of trends. Support newsroom leadership by managing workflows and mentoring team members Position Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field. Proven experience in a digital newsroom environment. Strong writing, editing, and headline-writing skills. Solid understanding of SEO, analytics, and digital growth strategies. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines. Sharp instincts for what makes a compelling, shareable story. Experience managing freelancers or small editorial teams. High proficiency using social media platforms (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Reddit, YouTube, etc.) as reporting and research tools. A proactive mindset and strong drive to achieve results. Note:
