JOB SUMMARY
This position provides a comprehensive educational program to meet the needs of students who are visually impaired in a school setting.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assesses and documents students' educational needs to develop and implement appropriate instructional plans for students who are visually impaired. Develops appropriate instructional materials for students who are visually impaired. Utilizes acceptable and innovative instructional techniques and practices for students who are visually impaired. Responsible for writing, implementing and monitoring progress on Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals. Prepares and implements curriculum materials for appropriate instruction. Works with a variety of support services to provide accommodations and modifications for students including such items as mobility, positioning, fine motor activities and/or job training. Conducts student evaluations, assessments and makes recommendations on instructional material and refers students for evaluation, counseling, and other support services. Participates in extra-curricular assignments. Keeps appropriate records. Works with other teachers and support personnel in curriculum planning and implementation to provide an integrated and well-rounded instruction program for each student. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in special education or related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have a working knowledge of computers. Verbal and written communication skills. Skilled at organizing and planning of work, detail oriented, communicates in a positive manner with others, and works well under high stress situations. Must have basic braille skills. Must have knowledge of assistive technology and basic understanding of the use of computer technology for disabled learners. Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person learning environments. Knowledge of school safety & security procedures Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid GaPSC certification in Special Education or related services field in special education Valid Driver's license
Salary/Terms/Benefits:
1. 190 day work year. 2. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Adopted Salary Schedule and position supplement(s). 3. Excellent benefits package (including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; employee assistance program); personal and sick leave; membership in Teachers' Retirement System.
