Position Summary: Wheaton College's Communication Department seeks qualified adjunct faculty members to support the large lecture structure of COMM 101. The adjunct faculty will work under the supervision of the Course Director to provide instructional support, evaluation of student work, and mentorship to students enrolled in COMM 101.
Primary Responsibilities: Grade student speeches and written outlines according to established course rubrics Support the faculty member of record during breakout activities during class lectures Provide guidance and feedback to students as they practice speeches and compose outlines Attend bi-weekly meetings with the faculty member of record Participate in a mandatory training session the week before classes begin Maintain regular office hours for student consultations (if applicable) Uphold the academic standards and mission of Wheaton College Qualifications:
MA OR currently working towards a graduate degree at Wheaton College Experience teaching public speaking or communication courses at the college level Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to evaluate student speeches using standardized criteria Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively Commitment to student success and academic excellence Time Commitment: (approximately 6 hours per week)
Training week prior to semester start Attendance at scheduled lecture sessions Bi-weekly meetings with faculty member of record Grading / student support Contract Period:
One academic semester with possibility of renewal
Pay Rate:
Stipend $1,500 per semester
