Summary
Taylor University is seeking applications and nominations of distinguished candidates for a tenure track faculty appointment for a Multimedia Journalism professor position in the Communication Department. This position begins in August 2026.
Mission and Commitment Taylor's mission is to develop servant-leaders marked with a passion to minister Christ's redemptive love, grace, and truth to a world in need. As a community, Taylor faculty, staff, and students commit to living out Christ's love and truth in the here and now. We worship together, serve one another, and grow in faith as we learn in the classroom, on the field, at chapel, and anywhere else we're doing Life Together. Duties and Responsibilities Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University. The appointee will teach journalism courses in the Communication Department, specifically required and elective courses in the Multimedia Journalism degree program. Serve as executive director of the Pulliam Journalism Center. Oversee The Echo student newspaper as faculty adviser. Advise and mentor students, recruit/mentor adjunct journalism instructors, and recruit students. Conduct scholarly research and provide service to the department, university, and to certain external audiences. Other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications
An appropriately earned doctorate is preferred but consideration will be given to candidates with a master's degree and significant professional journalism experience. For candidates with extensive professional media experience, multiple-year contracts will be made available in lieu of a tenure track position. Taylor University is primarily a teaching institution and places strong emphasis on good pedagogy in the classroom. As part of this position, there will be an expectation of quality teaching. Some college teaching experience is desirable. Professional media experience requiredin these areas: Experience as a working journalist and/or as an editor for magazines, newspapers and/or news wire services. Experience with national political reporting and international reporting experience would be helpful, but not required Supplemental Information About the Department
The Communication Department consists of six full-time faculty and one full-time program assistant serving approximately 100 majors, including Professional Writing, Communication, Public Relations, and Multimedia Journalism. The Multimedia Journalism program consists of one full-time journalism faculty and several adjunct instructors of journalism. Within the department, theoretical emphases include inquiry-based learning, group dynamics, media literacy, and strategic design. Scholarly interests among current faculty include interpersonal communication, communication theory, rhetoric, social media strategy and effects, emotional intelligence, service learning, and integration of faith and communication.
