The University of North Alabama's department of music invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music/Associate Director of Bands position beginning in August 2026. The department of music is a proud member of the School of the Arts, alongside wonderful colleagues from the departments of cinematic arts and theatre, visual arts and design, and entertainment industry. Located in the Shoals, known for its rich musical heritage and vibrant creative community, the department cultivates musicians equipped to contribute to the world stage. The successful candidate will be expected to excel in actively assisting the director and assistant director of bands in all aspects of marching, concert band, and pep band rehearsals, administration, planning, conducting, creative work and logistics as a team of directors; perform recruiting activities for the band program and department; serve on departmental/university committees; attend faculty and other relevant meetings; mentor and provide academic advising to students in the department. The successful candidate will also teach applied trumpet, lead studio class, and direct the trumpet ensemble. Minimum Qualifications
A terminal degree in music is required; however, ABD candidates close to completion of a doctorate may be considered for the position but will be appointed as non-tenure-track at the rank of Lecturer. Experience in teaching collegiate-level band is preferred; experience in teaching collegiate-level applied trumpet is preferred; and experience in the marching arts is preferred.
