The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals to join our Library Department as a Library Aide. The purpose of this position is to provide customer service to library patrons by responding to inquiries and requests, assisting with technical needs, and providing information on library procedures and services. Greet, direct, and assist patrons in person and via phone. Determine reading level and/or interest to assist in finding relevant materials. Check library materials in and out and inspect condition of materials. Verify all items are scanned. Shelve, search for, and locate materials utilizing the Dewey Decimal system. Register patrons and issue library cards; verify residency. Provide instruction and assistance to patrons using reference resources and shared computer equipment. Perform data entry, maintain records, and collect fees. Assist with the maintenance of library collections. Assist with age‑appropriate special programs and events; prepare materials and event space for activities. Prepare and make cash deposits. Perform related work as assigned. Note: This is a part‑time position at 19 hours per week. Some evening and weekend shifts are required. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Fluent speaking Spanish highly desired. Fingerprint Clearance Card required. Physical Demands
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium: Exerting 20–50 lbs. occasionally, 10–25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Incumbents may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, hazardous materials such as chemicals, oils, and blood and other bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, exposure to the elements, travel across rough, uneven and rocky surfaces and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
