Position Overview
DRG is looking for a Telecom Aerial Foreman who will perform skilled tasks in accordance with standard industry practices in the construction, maintenance, and operation of underground and overhead telecommunications. This position leads a full telecom crew and uses specialized equipment in an outside fast‑paced work environment. DRG Telecom Aerial Linemen install, operate, maintain, inspect, and repair fiber optic lines to include strand and fiber.
Responsibilities
Install, operate, maintain and repair overhead telecommunications lines
Read and interpret engineering plans
Locate and troubleshoot telecommunication cables and wires
Perform maintenance on telecommunication equipment
Operate bucket trucks, hand tools, power tools, ladders, signal level meters, voltmeters, and test equipment
Operate communications devices in accordance with company policies
Operate company vehicles safely and maintain assigned vehicle and equipment per company policies
Utilize and become proficient with tools, test equipment, and information that enhance business results
Adhere to industry‑specific, local, state, and federal regulations as applicable
Working on aerial spans; underground experience is a plus
Complete paperwork, timesheets, test results, vehicle inspection, and logs
Assist other team personnel in their duties to promote a team approach to problem‑solving
Visually assess digging areas to ensure they are staked/located prior to digging
Always comply with proper safety standards/procedures as per DRG policy or customer’s special request
Report all personal & vehicle accidents/incidents immediately to supervisors and assist in investigations
Operate construction equipment safely in a variety of urban and rural areas
Safely load equipment, secure load, transport, and unload construction equipment
Learn new skills and techniques continually and pass them on to others
Perform other duties as assigned
Safely and effectively operate a cable lasher and coax splice
Have extensive experience in telecommunications pole transfer work
Requirements
General knowledge of construction practices
Local candidates preferred; relocation assistance not available
Proficient in new build, coax & fiber installation and pole transfers
Ability to pass pre‑employment and random drug screens
Frequent sitting, standing, climbing, and bending; occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and crawling required
Strong peripheral and distant visual abilities, including depth perception
Work environment frequently loud and outdoors in various conditions
Knowledge of materials and tools used in line construction and maintenance work
Understanding of separation and clearance regulations
Ability to lead a team
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Operate construction equipment and machinery
Work nights and weekends if necessary; carry 75-80 lbs (including a ladder)
Work at heights of 20+ feet
Work in any type of weather conditions
Work independently or as part of a team and relate well to co‑workers
Qualifications
4+ years of aerial lineman, telecommunication, and pole climbing experience preferred
Possess or be able to obtain a DOT medical card
High school graduate or GED certificate preferred
OSHA certification is a plus; must complete online OSHA and safety‑related certifications
Additional Information The ideal candidate is comfortable traveling to locations within the client’s service territory and working full time (40–45 hours per week). Compensation is based on experience. DRG offers benefits including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, phone reimbursement, and use of company vehicles. Vacation pay, company stock, and 401‑K eligibility after 1 year. Continual training and development are offered. Pre‑employment drug screen, motor vehicle records screen, criminal background screen, and Social Security verification are required.
