Job Summary BeVera seeks an experienced Writer and Editor (Account Manager and PR Specialist) to lead the development, refinement, and organization of written content for the annual National Small Business Resource Guide. The role serves as the primary writer and editorial lead for a 40–60 page digital publication, ensuring that success stories, program descriptions, summaries, captions, and sidebars are clear, accurate, engaging, and aligned with project goals. The Writer/Editor ensures that all written materials meet Section 508 accessibility standards and support the publication’s mission to inform small business owners and federal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Write, edit, and refine content ensuring clarity and alignment with the agency mission
Transform subject matter expert materials into narratives, summaries, and program descriptions
Create headlines, subheaders, captions, quotes, and sidebars
Develop concise executive summaries for use in web and social media formats
Perform line editing, copyediting, and proofreading for an error‑free final product
Maintain consistency in grammar, tone, structure, and organization
Review regional success stories to ensure accuracy and formatting standards
Ensure all content is informative, engaging, relevant, and accessible
Organize content into a clear and logically structured publication
Collaborate on layout flow and placement of visual and written elements
Integrate charts, tables, images, quotes, and data points to balance text
Support content tracking, version control, and draft management
Collaborate closely with graphic designers to align visuals and written content
Develop charts, infographics, maps, tables, and data visuals as required
Ensure visuals support comprehension and are clear and accurate
Assist with integration of digital assets and interactive elements
Apply Section 508 standards throughout writing, editing, and structuring
Ensure correct reading order, headings, tagging, alternative text, and formatting
Support development of a fully Section 508 compliant PDF
Serve as liaison for content gathering, clarification, and communication
Participate in stakeholder meetings to provide updates and incorporate feedback
Maintain clear communication with project leadership and subject matter experts
Requirements Educational and Experience Qualifications
Minimum five years of experience in writing, editing, or public relations within the last five years
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related field
Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related discipline (preferred)
Experience producing high‑quality content for publications of similar size
Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards
Experience creating charts, visuals, and other visual elements
Strong editorial judgment and grammar expertise
Ability to synthesize complex information into accessible content
Experience collaborating with design teams, PMs, and SMEs
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with government content or small business programs
Ability to guide visual storytelling and layout decisions
Experience with collaborative editing platforms
