Director of Public Relations

Business Grade 11 / BG-11

Position Summary

The Director of Public Relations works with the Executive Director of Communications and Strategy to guide district public relations, media relations, and social media. The director helps ensure that families, staff, and community members receive clear and consistent information. This role manages media requests and district events, prepares key messages, and serves as a spokesperson when needed. The director also supports school and district teams with planning, messaging, and communication needs. In addition, the position supports the development and use of social media strategies that highlight district goals and share the work of Tulsa Public Schools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields

Experience

  • • Five (5) years of experience in communications, media, public relations, or similar roles
  • • Three (3) years of experience working with traditional media outlets (print, radio, broadcast) and/or writing for print media
  • • Three (3) years of experience with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, with proven success in expanding platform reach and engagement
  • • Experience developing media releases, content for social media, and marketing and public relations collateral, including strong editing and proofreading skills
  • • Experience in a school district or education-based setting preferred

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, Etc.

  • • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite
  • • Experience using social media monitoring tools to track reach and engagement
