Job Description:

Van Wagenen Library strives to make SUNY Cobleskill a better place to live, learn, and work by providing students, faculty, staff, and community members a welcoming environment, access to information and experiences that help extend theory into practice, and the resources and training required to effectively discover, create, and share knowledge.

The position of Library Director is a full-time, twelve-month appointment that reports to the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Director is responsible for all areas of Van Wagenen Library operations and its crucial role as the home of the Learning Commons at SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech. The incumbent will directly manage one or more of the Library's functional areas (Acquisitions, Circulation, etc.) in addition to their Director-specific responsibilities.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Provides strong and supportive leadership for approximately 10 full- and part-time professional and support staff
  • Creates and manages the Library's budgets
  • Oversees strategic planning and planning-related efforts for the Library
  • Directs assessment activities for the Library
  • Works closely with other areas of the Learning Commons
  • Facilitates relationships between the library and other academic departments, as well as other campus constituencies
  • Participates in appropriate regional, state, and national library organizations (SUNYLA, ALA, etc.)
  • Oversees general building needs, including renovations and serves as the main Building Incident Contact
  • Evaluates library personnel according to union and campus guidelines
  • Effectively manages one or more library functional areas (Acquisitions, Circulation, etc.)
  • Participates in additional library functional areas as appropriate (e.g. providing Reference service)
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • ALA-accredited MLS, MSIS, or equivalent degrees and/or certificates
  • Ability to meet requirements for tenure (continuing appointment) and promotion in line with SUNY and campus guidelines
  • Minimum seven years of increasingly responsible professional academic library experience, including supervisory and administrative duties
  • Minimum three years proven success with budget and planning
  • Substantial experience and expertise with one or more library functional areas
  • Understanding of library functional areas, as well as the academic support and technology needs of students, staff, and faculty
  • Demonstrated involvement with library organizations (SUNYLA, ALA, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:
  • Experience with Alma library management system
  • Experience with combined operations (Library, Tutoring, Advising, etc.)
  • Experience with multiple library functional areas
Additional Information:
  • The salary for this position is $105,500 - $110,600.
  • This is a full-time, 12-month, term appointment.
