The Monett R-1 School District is accepting applications for a full time highly qualified Library Media Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position is split between two elementary campuses, serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The ideal candidate will be a flexible, energetic and a student focused educator who collaborates effectively with staff and is passionate about literacy at the elementary level.
Job Summary
The job of the Library Media Specialist is to provide essential support to the instructional program by developing and implementing a library program that ensures equitable physical and intellectual access to resources. Key responsibilities include instructing students and staff on the proper use of library resources, and implementing age-appropriate programs to ensure high engagement. The ideal candidate manages all clerical functions related to the library collection-processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of materials-and actively selects appropriate items to support classroom instruction and student achievement.
Key Responsibilities
Support the District vision: Student Focused and Future Driven by promoting literacy, inquiry, information skills, and responsible technology use to prepare students for lifelong learning. Instruction and Collaboration: Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide learning materials and expertise that support student achievement and integrate information literacy into the curriculum. Model effective research methods and tools to promote higher-level thinking skills. Communicate regularly with staff members about new materials, technology, research opportunities, and professional development resources. Teach engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) classes to all Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students on a scheduled basis. Library Program Management: Provide vision, planning, and leadership in cooperation with administrators to adhere to collection and resource standards as set forth by the DESE Standards for Missouri School Library Media Centers. Select, acquire, organize, and make accessible appropriate print and non-print material for the levels being served (PreK-3). Maintain the library automation software for collection management and required inventory. Supervise and document losses, monitoring procedures efficiently. Develop and provide clear lesson plans, schedules, and activity directions for the Library Media Specialist Assistant to support consistent instruction, smooth routines, and effective library operations. Facility and Access: Design the physical library media facility in relation to evolving program needs. Provide a flexible library media center schedule that ensures students and staff have unlimited physical and intellectual access to a wide range of materials and resources Qualifications and Requirements
Certification:
Must hold appropriate, valid Missouri state certification for Library Media Specialist/Specialist in School Library Media. Flexibility:
Demonstrated ability to adapt to a split-campus schedule and manage diverse instructional responsibilities (library management, general instruction, and STEAM education). Experience:
Prior experience working with elementary-aged students (PreK-3) is highly preferred. Knowledge:
Strong understanding of library media and book circulation practices to ensure up to date library books are easily accessible to all students, current educational technology, and information literacy standards.
Skills:
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
