ROLE SUMMARY: As a Production Designer I at BJU Press, the ideal candidate will play a supporting role on the Art & Design team by ensuring the accurate and consistent application of layout styles across educational materials. Working closely with design teams and editors, the Production Designer focuses on typesetting and formatting content within pre-established templates and style guides. This role emphasizes detail-oriented execution, precision, and adherence to style guidelines in support of larger design goals for each product.

Core functions of the department include concept development, layout and typography, cover and branding design, illustration coordination, and production for educational resources. Through creativity and excellence, the team ensures that every design element effectively communicates and supports the transformational learning experience that BJU Press provides.
Role Summary: As a Production Designer I at BJU Press, the ideal candidate will play a supporting role on the Art & Design team by ensuring the accurate and consistent application of layout styles across educational materials. Working closely with design teams and editors, the Production Designer focuses on typesetting and formatting content within pre-established templates and style guides. This role emphasizes detail-oriented execution, precision, and adherence to style guidelines in support of larger design goals for each product.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- apply approved styles and templates to format product content consistently and accurately
- typeset materials such as student editions, teacher editions, assessments, and other ancillary products using InDesign
- make layout adjustments and implement editorial corrections without altering the established design
- ensure correct use of styles, spacing, typography, and page elements in line with layout guidelines and standards
- collaborate with design teams and editors to maintain clarity, consistency, and alignment with instructional objectives
- prepare clean, organized files for review, revision, and production
- respond to feedback promptly and accurately, applying changes through multiple stages of proofing
- support the design team's workflow by reliably completing assigned portions of the layout work
- contribute to team-wide standards by following best practices for production efficiency and accuracy
- Detail-oriented mindset and strong commitment to consistency
- Ability to follow established layout rules and implement detailed revisions precisely
- Clear communication and professional collaboration with project teams
- Willingness to learn from feedback and improve over time
- Steady, reliable work ethic with accountability for assigned tasks

- Curiosity and initiative in refining technical layout and typesetting skills
- 0-2 years of experience in production design, typesetting, or print publishing
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Publishing, or a related field preferred
- Portfolio or sample work that reflects precision, consistency, and adherence to layout guidelines preferred
- Demonstrated skill with text formatting, typographic structure, and layout organization
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, especially in applying and managing paragraph and character styles
- Ability to implement complex editorial markup accurately
- Familiarity with print production processes, file preparation, and publishing standards
- Portfolio or sample work that reflects precision, consistency, and adherence to layout guidelines
- Eagerness to learn through collaboration, feedback, and hands-on experience in a team setting
