Career Opportunity
The Graphic Designer creates new designs, concepts, and layouts and functions as a "production artist" demonstrating superior knowledge of various graphics production software and MacIntosh Systems. This position requires the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with exceptional accuracy to meet production scheduling.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
- Create designs, concepts and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts.
- Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy and select style and size of type.
- Use computer software to generate new images.
- Mark up, paste, and assemble final layouts to prepare layouts for printer.
- Confer with customers to discuss and determine layout design.
- Modify existing artwork or create new designs as directed utilizing computer applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, Acrobat, ArtPro, or Packz for design and production processes.
- Execute various levels of design and file production meeting requirements for plant departments or requestors within company, including development of some design through graphic file preparation for print production.
- Responsible for trapping, proofing, mock‑ups, cutting and/or pasting, archiving project files and documents.
- Responsible for reproducing existing artwork provided by outside vendors.
- Responsible for barcode creation and verification.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules, security procedures and instructions.
- Perform all duties according to established safety policy, including wearing all required PPE to perform duties.
- This position will help keep the department within all 5S and SQF guidelines, and immediately report any food safety concerns to management.
- Performs other duties assigned by Graphics Coordinator.
What You Need To Succeed
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
- 2‑year degree or 2 to 5 years of production experience in a manufacturing environment in a related field.
- Knowledge of design elements, such as color and composition.
- Artistic ability and creativity are essential.
- Strong problem‑solving ability and ability to overcome challenges.
- Excellent communication skills internally and externally with customers.
- Experience with MacIntosh Systems.
- Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, Acrobat and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledgeable with hardware installation, maintenance, and networking experience.
- Experience with ArtPro or Packge or a related trapping application.
- Thorough understanding of 4‑color process.
- Must be a self‑starter with ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Excellent pre‑press, type and color skills.
- Basic knowledge of mechanics.
- Knowledge of color separations.
- Ability to manipulate PDF, EPS, and other file formats.
- Use scanners, printers, and other peripherals associated with graphic arts.
- Must demonstrate ability to prioritize workload and multi‑task to meet established deadlines while maintaining a positive, team‑oriented approach.
- Attention to detail.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to see/read a computer and work via telephone.
