Position Summary: The School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for an Assistant Professor of String Bass. The successful candidate will teach a studio of undergraduate and graduate string bass students, contribute to the musical and intellectual life of the school, and foster engagement throughout the university and the community. As a member of the faculty, the assistant professor will support inclusive excellence initiatives and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to create a welcoming learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Music degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience teaching classical bass.
  • Ability to teach electric bass students in the Popular Music & Technology program.
  • Performance experience in a variety of genres and musical styles and/or experience teaching and performing in more than one style or tradition.
  • Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive and collaborative faculty, staff, and student environment at UNCG.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DMA or equivalent professional experience.
  • Evidence of artistic excellence in performance.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Evidence of successful recruiting practices.
  • Ability to work with a variety of ensembles based on the needs of the department.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and teaching students from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience enhancing teaching and professional/creative practice through innovation and fostering belonging.

Other Area of Consideration

  • Ability to teach other coursework depending on the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the department.
