Job Summary Located Sacramento, full‑time position for Pharmacy Technician 3. The Pharmacy Technician 3 is responsible for gathering information from medical records and other sources as required to process requests. Makes analysis of what further information needs to be collected to complete patient history. Makes recommendations to pharmacist for refill authorization based on protocols and data gathered. Communicates authorization requests to requesting parties. Assists with processing of prior authorization requests. Maintains database of activities to document workload and impact on patient outcomes. Percentages of time allocated to functions are a guideline only. Individual assignments and actual time worked may vary based on the department's operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

California Licensed Pharmacy Technician

Recent experience processing third party billing

Experience in performing pharmacy calculations.

Demonstrated knowledge of generic and trade drug names and pharmacy terminology.

Experience in the use of pharmacy information systems and look‑up patient data on hospital information systems.

Excellent customer service skills and communication skills, both orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB)

Recent Outpatient Pharmacy experience

PBM Pharmacy Technician experience

Prior Authorization/Patient Assistance Program experience

Knowledge of Hospital, Department and University Policies and Procedures

Familiarity with Hospital, HBC, PCN layout, names and locations of patient care areas

Experience in following an established protocol and keep accurate records and pay close attention to details.

Key Responsibilities

75% – Works under direct supervision and control of a pharmacist while performing duties of a pharmacy technician

10% – Works to support clinical pharmacist in the clinic

10% – Completes documentation on all requests

5% – Other duties as assigned

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient‑centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
