Responsibilities Position Summary As an Industrial Designer II within the Gas Detection team, you will play a key role in shaping innovative,
user-centered
safety products from concept through to completion. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate customer insights into compelling design solutions that are both aesthetically refined and technically feasible. This role emphasizes design development, collaboration with engineering, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
Translate research insights into high-level product concepts and detailed feature designs.
Collaborate with engineering teams to develop integrated product solutions, balancing design intent with technical feasibility.
Produce detailed 3D CAD models (design intent, not for manufacture) using SolidWorks.
Create compelling visualizations and renderings to communicate design intent.
Support prototyping efforts using techniques such as clay modelling, foam prototyping and 3D printing to validate design concepts.
Contribute to UI development (light and sound patterns, graphic workflows, screen designs) — desirable but not essential.
Validate graphic UI workflows and screens.
Be an active voice in the product core team (Product Manager, Lead Engineer, Designer), contributing to design decisions from concept through launch.
Engage in VOC (Voice of Customer) activities to uncover real user needs and champion those insights throughout the design process, supporting research activities, including the creation of illustrations, scripts, and pretotypes.
Challenge assumptions, advocate for the right solution, and remain flexible to deliver exceptional hardware products at speed.
Required Skills & Competencies
Proficient in SolidWorks
Experience using KeyShot and Figma — desirable
Strong understanding of injection molded plastic and other common manufacturing techniques
Familiarity with electrical-mechanical or connected product development
Skilled in prototyping techniques, including 3D printing
Proactive and collaborative in solving mechanical design challenges
Execution-focused with a strong ability to deliver tangible design outcomes
Strong portfolio demonstrating
creative thinking and technical skill.
Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field
3+ years of experience in product design, preferably in consumer electronics or hardware
Experience working in cross-functional teams and fast-paced development environments
Exposure to UI/UX design principles and tools is a plus
