Job Description – Polysomnographic Technologist, 36 hours weekly, Night Shift, Sign‑On Bonus Available (2400028P)

Job Summary The Polysomnographic (PSG) Technologist works under the general supervision of the Sleep Lab Manager and Clinical Director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Responsibilities include performing overnight polysomnography, MSLT, MWT, infant studies, seizure studies, CPAP/BiPAP titration, ambulatory monitoring, and other specialty studies in accordance with protocols, APSS standards, and hospital policies. The technologist prepares patients, calibrates equipment, applies electrodes and sensors, scores sleep/wake stages and clinical events, generates accurate reports, documents history and interventions, and ensures patient safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

– High School Diploma or GED. One of the following: associate degree in polysomnography, one‑year accredited polysomnography program, or equivalent experience with documented proficiency at all competencies of a Polysomnographic Technician.

Required Licenses and Certifications

– Polysomnographic Technologist license in the District of Columbia, Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification, or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or equivalent. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS).

Required Skills and Knowledge

– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse families; effective oral and written communication with physicians and staff; integration of anatomy, physiology, and sleep pathology; attention to detail for data quality; independent work; map reading; physical ability to move, lift, and carry patients and equipment up to 50 lbs; intermediate computer skills; knowledge of JCAHO, DCDOH, HIPAA regulations.

Functional Accountabilities

Organization and Planning

– Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to anticipate needs; determine testing parameters in collaboration with physicians; screen for medications and sleep patterns; explain procedures; set up equipment and CPAP per protocol.

Patient Care

– Obtain vital signs; provide instruction on protocols and equipment; ensure safety; recognize and implement interventions; provide age‑specific care; evaluate effectiveness of interventions.

Technical Proficiency

– Apply recording devices; perform calibrations; conduct polysomnography and specialty procedures per protocols and APSS standards; follow lights‑out and lights‑on procedures; operate ventilatory and apnea monitors; perform equipment care and maintenance.

Documentation

– Record history, medications, treatments, procedures; document sleep stages and clinical events; score stages and events per protocols; generate accurate reports; ensure all required written documentation and data entry is thorough and complete; complete interpretation reports; archive studies.

Professionalism

– Attend in‑services, conferences; participate in staff meetings; engage in performance improvement activities; assist in regulatory survey readiness; maintain technical skills.

Employment Details

Position Status: Regular – Full‑Time.

Shift: Night.

Work Schedule: 0700‑1930.

Salary Range: $60,632 – $119,059.2.
