Project Designer Department: Design Team (Interior Architecture) Employment Type: Full Time Location: San Francisco, CA Reporting To: Senior Designer Compensation: $80,000 - $124,000 / year Description The professional position of a Project Designer requires delivering legendary service to distinct clients that exceeds expectations. Must have a solid knowledge of trade resources, fabricators, and vendors as well as the ability to creatively select high-end lighting, furnishings, hardware, floor/window coverings, materials, and finishes. The Project Designer must interact effectively with the design team on multiple high end residential projects as well as supervise the work of others. Job Duties and Responsibilities Lead the interior architectural design process for high-end residential and hospitality projects from proposal through completion Conduct thorough client needs assessments and translate requirements into refined design concepts, space plans, and documentation Develop conceptual studies, schematic floor plans, elevations, interior details, and comprehensive construction document sets Produce photorealistic renderings, mood boards, material palettes, and design presentations to clearly communicate design intent Ensure all plans and specifications meet public health, safety, welfare, building, fire, and municipal code requirements Select, design, and specify interior finishes, colors, materials, fixtures, lighting, plumbing, millwork, casework, appliances, furniture, art, and accessories Research, evaluate, and specify products based on aesthetics, performance, sustainability, life-cycle, and budget considerations Partner with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, artisans, manufacturers, and fabricators to develop cohesive design solutions Document existing site conditions, assist with permit submissions, and participate in pricing and value-engineering processes Review RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, control samples, mock-ups, and prototypes to ensure accuracy and alignment with design intent Conduct regular site visits, participate in construction administration meetings, track progress, respond to inquiries, and prepare punch lists Manage project timelines, work plans, agendas, and cross-functional coordination to ensure seamless project execution Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, providing updates and addressing questions throughout the project lifecycle Oversee organization of project files and ensure documentation follows internal standards and best practices Maintain the materials resource library and vendor relationships to support ongoing and future design work Responsible for organization of project folder and ensuring filing system adheres to company standards Skills Degree in Interior Architecture or Interior Design Minimum of 4 to 6 years interior design experience Comprehensive knowledge of Interior Architecture (IA) scopes in residential and hospitality design standards 3 years of experience with the following skills, that may be gained concurrently: AutoCAD SketchUp Enscape Bluebeam Revit VectorWorks Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro Spec Sources Knowledge in creation of construction drawings, specifications and schedules Knowledge of specification writing Knowledge of trade resources, fabricators, and vendors Experience selecting and specifying lighting, furnishings, hardware, floor/window coverings, materials, and finishes Ability to interact effectively with the design team on multiple projects Must have excellent customer service and public speaking skills; be comfortable in interfacing with clients, consultants, vendors and internal staff Must be collaborative, self-motivated, positive, and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills Core Competencies Task Focus: Delivers legendary service to clients and vendors that meets and exceeds expectations Ethics & Integrity: Adheres to Company’s values, beliefs, and principles of innovation and excellence in design Composure: Remains calm, maintains perspective, and responds in a professional manner when faced with tough situations Personal Learning: Takes personal responsibility for the continuous learning of new knowledge, skills, and experiences Dealing with Ambiguity: Able to successfully function during times of uncertainty and changing priorities Decision-Making: Makes keen, timely decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment Interpersonal Savvy: Builds effective relationships with all people—up, down and sideways, inside and outside of the Company Results Oriented: Proactive attitude; Gets results and achieves goals Physical Requirements This position will be working in a typical office setting, with no extremes in temperature or lighting Able to occasionally travel and present at offsite locations in the Bay Area Applicants should be able to work with equipment typically found in an office and should be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without accommodation.
