Hiring Range: $54,142 – $64,958 annually. Full Pay Range: $54,142 – $75,774.
Job Type: Full‑time. May require rotating shifts, evenings, and weekends.
Job Description
The Library Communications Specialist will collaborate with the Library Service Manager of Marketing to develop an effective strategy for engaging Spanish‑speaking constituents. Responsibilities include translating key messages, policy, and procedures from English to Spanish, creating original content, and cultivating relationships with the county’s Spanish‑speaking community.
Essential Functions
- Write content for all office communications and marketing materials, including press releases, newsletters, feature stories, advertisements, webpages, social media posts, flyers, posters, and collateral.
- Serve as secondary contact between the Communications Office and client departments or elected officials, building relationships and understanding departmental communications needs.
- Maintain awareness of current or planned projects and act as a secondary monitor of work quality and completion.
- Analyze issues and generate story ideas for client departments.
- Advocate for client department or elected official interests within the Communications Office.
- Research and gather information from county sources to compose readable prose for the county website or other media outlets.
- Edit text produced by client staff.
- Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to cultivate and maintain relationships with external media representatives.
- Advise media representatives on complex issues and connect reporters to appropriate county sources.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, communications, public relations, media communications, English, or a closely related field, plus one year of experience in journalism, public relations, technical writing, or media relations.
- Alternatively, five years of experience in journalism, public relations, technical writing, or media relations.
- Qualifying education and experience must be documented in the application; do not submit a resume substitute.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in Spanish‑language outreach or marketing and strong Spanish language proficiency.
