TxDOT's Odessa District is looking for an Electronic Technician I, II or III (radio tech) based in our District Headquarters Office. This position will help support over 307 employees across 13 Maintenance Offices, 3 Area Offices, and the District Headquarters. Job duties will include installing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electronic equipment and much more.
Salary awareness: Electronics Technician I (A16): $40,918 - $61,130; Electronics Technician II (A18): $45,521 - $71,055; Electronics Technician III (A20): $51,158 - $81,351.

Responsibilities
- Performs skilled electronics technical support work. Install, diagnose, maintain and repair electronic systems and equipment; operate and test circuits; calibrate electronic instruments.
- Coordinates work and troubleshoots microprocessor controlled, frequency synthesized, programmed mobile radios, base stations and miscellaneous electrical equipment.
- Installs, removes, tests and repairs mobile two-way radio equipment; installs/removes/tests/repairs two-way base communications, repeaters, microwaves and related equipment using spectrum and volt-ohm meters.
- Maintains records of equipment and call signs; orders parts and equipment and keeps records of repairs, employee time and mileage; provides input on future budget requirements.
- Receives and processes work orders from district sections and coordinates equipment repairs; maintains digital and analog systems with multiplex.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned; stays current with technology changes and researches new technologies for electronic systems and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in General High School Studies.
Experience: 5 years experience in electronic systems, equipment installation, repair. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Electronic Technician Roles and Abilities
Electronic Technician I: considerable knowledge of radio installation and repair; applicable safety standards; public relations; troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical components; installing and maintaining equipment; using hand and power tools and electronic test equipment.
Electronic Technician II: extensive knowledge of radio installation and repair; safety standards; public relations; troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical equipment; using hand and power tools and test equipment; maintaining working relationships.
Ability to: Work in cramped spaces and at varied heights; coordinate labor, materials, and equipment; install and maintain equipment; troubleshoot and repair equipment; use hand and power tools; work with electronic test equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Subject to environmental conditions; outside/inside conditions; extreme temperatures
- Subject to noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions
- Required to wear protective gear; may work in small spaces
- Lift up to 10-50 lbs depending on task; various physical capabilities including bending, crouching, crawling, reaching
- Must be able to report for duty within 30 minutes on a 24-hour basis for emergencies
