Manufacturing Technical Writer
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Technical Writer assists in the development, standardization, and publishing of manufacturing documentation across production and assembly processes. This role ensures that work instructions, procedural guides, and technical manuals support operational efficiency, quality standards, and regulatory compliance. The Technical Writer serves as a strategic partner to engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams, providing guidance on documentation strategy, process improvements, and cross‑functional alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, development, and standardization of manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, test procedures, SOPs, and reference guides.
Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, and project management teams to define documentation requirements and ensure alignment with operational goals and regulatory standards.
Review and enforce standards for technical documentation, ensuring consistency, clarity, and compliance across all manufacturing sites.
Identify gaps in existing documentation and implement improvements to reduce process variability, mitigate risks, and increase efficiency.
Enforce documentation policies, procedures, and best practices; monitor compliance and effectiveness.
Exercise independent judgment in determining priorities, resolving conflicts, and developing solutions that impact manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in technical writing or manufacturing documentation.
Proven ability to analyze complex manufacturing processes and translate them into clear, scalable documentation.
Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and perform tasks with minimal to moderate supervision.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Experience implementing documentation standards, workflows, and quality controls.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to train and influence teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, document control systems, and familiarity with manufacturing software/ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
Knowledge of ISO9001, AS9100, or other regulated quality standards.
Hands‑on familiarity with manufacturing processes, equipment, and tools.
