Communications Officer Academy - Communications Officer Veterans Preference. Citrus County Sheriff's Office. Full-time, 12‑hour rotating shifts with weekends and holidays. Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Lecanto, FL. Reports to Communications Director.

Job Summary CCSO seeks Communications Officers who handle emergency and non‑emergency calls, dispatch law enforcement, EMS, and fire personnel. Full‑time CCSO benefits include medical/dental/vision/life insurance, Florida Retirement System, paid time off, and access to CCSO gym facilities. THIS IS FOR ENROLLMENT IN THE COMMUNICATION OFFICER ACADEMY BEGINNING FEBRUARY 2, 2026.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pass a Critical assessment test to qualify for the Academy.

Complete the Call Center Questionnaire and Call Center Observation before the academy starts.

Complete the Communications Officer Academy program, including:

Public Safety Telecommunications Program

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)

Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD)

Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) certification

Pass the State of Florida 911 Safety Tele‑communicator Certification exam.

Proficiency in keyboarding at 32 wpm.

Able to sit and speak for long periods of time.

All Citrus County Sheriff's Office employees are essential emergency workers and may be required to work in any capacity during activations, including in‑County and out‑of‑County deployments.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age at the start of the academy.

Must have the legal right to work in the United States.

Must have a valid Class E Florida Driver's License.

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification of competency.

Must not have been convicted of a felony.

Must not have used, tried, tasted, experimented or possessed any illegal controlled substances in the last 12 months or Schedule I or II substance within the last five years at the time of the application.
