PGS Worldwide is seeking a Technical Writer in Sterling Heights, MI for a 6-month contract-to-hire role working a full-time schedule. This position supports a major aerospace & defense company and involves creating, revising, and validating complex technical documentation for advanced mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. The role requires strong collaboration with engineering teams and the ability to translate highly technical data into clear, user-focused instructions.

Required Skills

Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations Ability to analyze engineering drawings, technical data, and system designs Proficiency with modern publishing and page-production tools Experience with XML authoring tools (Arbortext, Oxygen) Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access a plus) Experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar PDF markup tools Ability to write, revise, and validate complex technical documentation Strong English language skills, attention to detail, and ability to work across multiple teams Mechanical/electrical/operator technical writing experience, ideally within the defense industry Ability to support customer interactions, reviews, and problem-solving discussions Familiarity with IETM development processes and markup languages Preferred Skills

Experience with content management systems (CMS) On-vehicle validation/verification experience Familiarity with military or commercial technical documentation standards Ability to lead small documentation tasks or portions of larger projects What You'll Do

Create and revise technical manuals, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, fault isolation procedures, IPBs, and other documentation Ensure all content complies with engineering data, customer requirements, and government standards Review and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and product data Evaluate existing graphics and request updates or new illustrations as needed Support time and cost estimating for documentation tasks Participate in documentation reviews, customer discussions, and validation efforts both onsite and offsite Contribute to document structure, formatting, and style decisions Maintain current knowledge of emerging tools, standards, and documentation practices Support or perform system testing related to IETM development Experience & Education

Defense industry experience required Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field

or

equivalent experience plus 5 additional years of related technical writing work
