Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our "backyard" is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

Under the supervision and direction of the building principal, the library Paraeducator 1 provides assistance to teachers and students with access to library materials and a library environment that will aid them in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of the library resources and invite imaginative and intellectual growth through access to literature. This includes assisting with the purchase of library materials and maintaining an efficient system to help teachers and students maximize their experience with the library. This position's responsibilities are to assist certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for students who seek special services, including tutoring students individually or in small groups, clerical duties, and supervising peer interaction activities for students who are at-risk , and supervising student activities.

- Sort books, publications, and other items relating to circulation of materials and equipment.
- Compile and maintain records relating to circulation of materials and equipment.
- Compile bibliographies and prepare abstracts on subjects of interest to particular staff or student groups.
- Compose explanitory summaries of contents of books and other reference materials.
- Conduct reference searches using printed materials as well as in-house and online databases.
- Shelve, deliver, and retrieve items throughout the library by hand or using a pushcart.
- Design posters and special displays to promoteuse of the library materials or specific reading programs.
- Learn and maintain databases, web pages, and local area networks.
- Enter and update patron records in a variety of software databases.
- Create or search for catalog data according to system used.
- Create or download MARC record files and data for materials including author, title, publisher, publication date, and edition.
- Process print and non-print library and school materials to prepare them for inclusion in library collections, including call numbers, barcodes, and stamping with school identification tools according to basic library classification systems.
- Guide students in the use of library resources including online and local electronic search catalogs, reference materials, audiovisual equipment, computers, and various electrionic resources.
- Operate and maintain a variety of audiovisual equipment.
- Organize and maintain periodicals and reference materials.
- Prepare orders for necessary materials, compare pricing, and estimate costs.
- Prepare books for binding if needed.
- Process inter-district library material loans for staff and students.
- Provide assistance to teachers by locating and collecting materials as needed for special projects.
- Reserve, circulate, renew, and discharge books and other materials using scanning equipment.
- Enter and retrieve information and programs from district file servers and databases for storage and use on library/lab/school computers.
- Review subject matter of materials to be classified and apply call numbers, bar codes, and headings according to basic library classification systems.
- Keep track of and report student fines to office, student, and parent or guardian for unreturned, lost, or damaged books.
- Inspect returned items for damage and make minor repairs when needed.
- Train, schedule, and supervise library parent volunteers and/or student assistants.
- Access print and non-print materials for a wide variiety of school functions.
- Remove outdated, old, or damaged materials from the library.
- Conduct yearly inventory of all library materials.
- Create reports from library software applications and various software programs as requested.
- Take action to halt student disruptions in the library; promote safe, responsible, and respectable social skill development.
- Assists students with interpersonal and personal skills mastery; listens to student confidences and refers problems to teachers, counselors, specilalists, administrators, or outside agencies as appropriate.
- May work 1:1 with students in the library, including those as identified as needing special education and related services (including communication, coordination, comprehension, and social behavior).
- Tutor students individually or on small groups in a variety of learning activities to promote student understanding of materials presented. May administer, supervise, and score student work, tests, and record results.
- Meet with teachers and staff as needed to provide an appropriate program for students.
- Work with other specialists as needed.
- Operate a variety of office machines and library equipment.
- Provide first aid to injured or ill students as needed.
- Experiences frequent interruptions.
- Required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors, academic abilities, as well as a wide range of physical or emotional disabilities.
- May occasionally be required to calm distraught, angry or hostile students.
