Teacher Aide- High School Library Support
Scarsdale Public Schools is seeking Teacher Aide candidates to support the daily operations of the high school library. This role involves assisting students and staff and helping to maintain a safe, organized, and respectful environment within the library program. The Library Aide serves approximately 1,500 students in grades 9-12 and plays an essential role in fostering a welcoming, efficient, and student-centered learning space.



Approximate Hours: 5 hours/day (Monday-Friday).


Job Type: Part-time


Pay: $19.50 - $26.55 per hour

Position Purpose


Under the direct supervision of two certified school librarians and as part of a team of three other aides, help maintain a welcoming and supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff.


Job Expectations

  • Supervise students
  • Shelve books
  • Assist with student printing
  • Manage circulation desk
  • Process books
  • Close library at the end of the day

Equipment


Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers, printers, and copiers.

  • use library circulation software

  • establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, and staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Works in standard office and school building environments.
  • Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities and emergency evacuations.

Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience


A high school or equivalency diploma and demonstration of interest in working with children.
