Transportation Planning and Design

Work with our dynamic team of transportation planners and designers to create innovative, practical solutions that improve safety, connectivity, and accessibility. Collaborate with traffic engineers to develop and implement roadway improvements that address immediate traffic challenges while supporting long?term community goals.

Summary

As a Transportation Designer?1 you will perform engineering calculations, CAD drafting, roadway design, 3?D modeling, and produce technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates. Under the guidance of a licensed professional engineer youll gain hands?on experience while building foundational 2?D and 3?D design skills.

Job Responsibilities And Duties

  • Software: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) - Basic. AutoCAD C3D - Basic. MicroStation Connect and OpenRoads - Basic (if applicable).
  • Technical Expertise: Basic understanding of technical fundamentals; performs basic technical tasks with oversight; motivated to learn new skills; basic technical writing; clear internal communication.
  • Teamwork: Team player in a supporting role; collaborates, listens, takes direction well, retains information, motivated to grow.
  • Project Delivery: Produces technical reports, memos, specifications, construction quantity calculations, cost estimates, design documents, construction plans, exhibits.
  • Budget and Schedule: Basic understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets; collaborates with supervisor; basic monitoring of budget and schedule for simple tasks.
  • Industry Standards and Regulations: Basic familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and local client codes.
  • Client Interaction: Infrequent direct client interaction; reads emails, attends client meetings, prepares minutes.
  • Level of Work/Accountability: Performs basic technical work under close supervision; minimal autonomy.
  • Other: Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Years of experience required: none.
  • Years of experience required with advanced degree: none.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • EIT/EI required (within 6 months of hire).
  • Driving is an essential job function or a valid drivers license is required to support legitimate business purposes.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, and use hands. Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Requires close vision and ability to adjust focus.
