Job Summary The Division of Pediatric Clinical Enterprise at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Scheduling and Prior Authorization Coordinator. The role collaborates with physicians, nurses, clinic managers, and financial advocates to obtain prior authorization before services are rendered for requested procedures, testing, and medications. The coordinator also oversees the coordination and scheduling of certain procedures and tests.

Key Responsibilities

Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and network status.

Ensure accurate ICD, CPT codes and related medical records are submitted in authorization requests.

Obtain pre‑authorization and referrals from insurance companies for diagnostic testing, procedures, treatments, and medication as ordered.

Follow up on delayed or denied authorization requests and escalates for resolution.

Create detailed documentation and maintain the authorization paper trail.

Coordinate schedules for surgery and surgical procedures, testing and other services as per departmental policy.

Collaborate effectively with team members to complete tasks efficiently.

Participate in quality improvement projects, developing data collection tools, analyzing and reporting data.

Work Environment Office setting. Requires regular and punctual attendance. Scheduled shifts Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm or 9:00 am – 6:00 pm as assigned.

Physical Requirements Nearly continuously sitting, hearing, listening, talking. Often repetitive hand motion (typing) and walking. Seldom bending or reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications • Three years of office or clinic scheduling experience (or comparable combinations of education and experience). • Effective communication, human relations, and computer skills. • Some assignments require medical terminology, certification, or additional experience. • Patient‑sensitive role: must meet immunization requirements per CDC standards.

Preferences Experience with medical insurance, prior‑authorizations, ICD/CPT coding is preferred.
