Job Title: Specifications WriterJob Description

Develop specifications for complex public safety and civic projects, creating the firm's master specifications from the ground up and establishing consistent standards for quality and compliance. Review in-progress drawings with Project Architects to produce coordinated technical specifications, provide recommendations, and document required changes. Verify product suitability, identify special considerations, and ensure proper application for each project. Collaborate with project teams to gather critical details, evaluate constructability, and propose alternative solutions when needed. Lead the ongoing development and refinement of master specifications, including specialized content for civic projects, regional conditions, and sustainable practices. Draft specifications that clearly capture qualitative requirements and maintain clarity and consistency across all construction documents. Participate in project meetings and maintain awareness of industry standards, codes, and best practices. Build and maintain relationships with technical experts, manufacturers, and product representatives to support project success. Serve as a technical advisor throughout the project lifecycle, guiding material and product selections and integration. Assist in creating and maintaining firm-wide guide specifications and uphold best practices for public safety and civic work. Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Create and refine the firm's master specifications to ensure quality and compliance.

Review and coordinate in-progress drawings with Project Architects.

Verify product suitability and ensure proper application for each project.

Collaborate with project teams to evaluate constructability and propose solutions.

Lead the development of master specifications with a focus on sustainability.

Draft clear and consistent specifications across all construction documents.

Participate in project meetings and stay updated on industry standards.

Build relationships with technical experts and product representatives.

Serve as a technical advisor for material and product selections.

Assist in maintaining firm-wide guide specifications and best practices.

Essential Skills

Expertise in Specification Writing, MasterSpec, and SpecLink.

Strong ability to develop detailed project manuals and technical specifications.

Proficient in creating and maintaining master specifications for public safety projects.

Skilled in managing deadlines and providing reliable product and material resources.

Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM software.

Knowledge of installation and construction processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Senior candidates should hold CSI, CDT, or CCS certification(s).

Knowledge of construction materials and methods, including sustainable solutions.

Familiarity with contractor, client-specific, and construction management software.

Understanding of codes, regulations, and construction costs.

Strong problem-solving, communication, leadership, and mentorship skills.

Work Environment

Fully remote work environment. The role reports directly to the owner and involves working on niche community impact-driven projects. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of White Marsh, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $67.31/hr.
