Position Summary
The role of Broadcast Digital Media Engineer will provide engineering solutions and support for the NBA’s Media Storage, Digital Media Architecture and platforms. This role will play a critical part in the design and implementation of systems that ensure speed and agility on production content platforms, assisting in delivering exceptional content for our audiences across the globe.
Major Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain multiple tiers of Media storage, live game Ingest systems, including HI res and Lo res codecs.
- Build and maintain working relationships with vendors for product support (rentals, upgrades, new product development, etc.).
- Maintain Video and Audio quality to uphold highest broadcast standards and migrate into new HDR and 4K ready codecs and video formats.
- Assist with supervision, facility design, construction, and installations as necessary.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks and system upgrades to optimize performance.
- Develop integration between scheduling, traffic, and automation systems.
- Collaborate with the operations team to design and implement technical solutions for various broadcasting projects.
- Assist in the design and installation of new storage and distribution systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and modernization of existing aging systems and platforms.
- Work with various internal and external stakeholders to understand technical requirements and contribute to production planning.
- Provide technical support during live events.
- Perform on-call, on-site remote emergency troubleshooting and repairs.
Required Education/Professional Experience
- 6-10 years of technical engineering experience in live broadcast, sports production, or digital media management.
- College degree in Communications/Engineering or related field required.
- In lieu, a college degree significant field experience will be considered.
Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes
- Expertise working on media Storage and media workflow for live media and editing systems.
- Strong understanding of video and audio signal flow, transmission standards, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience with custom developed software, scripting, and programming including experience in Python, Java, and C.
- Proficiency in Storage file systems, Video ingest and Editing systems, File accelerators, Video encoders and MAM systems.
- Willingness to travel and accept shift and weekend assignments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
Salary Range
$150,000 - $180,000
