St. Louis County Library

The History & Genealogy Department is seeking a full-time Reference Specialist or a Reference Librarian to provide quality reference service to meet the information needs of customers and staff.

The mission of the St. Louis County Library is to provide the resources and services to enrich individual minds, enhance lives and expand perspectives. SLCL is an award winning library system with branches throughout St. Louis County. We have transformed into a meaningful community resource with updated facilities and an array of programs and partnerships that serve over 860,000 patrons.

Salary: $49,338 - Reference Specialist (Master's Degree)

OR

Salary: $61,247 - Reference Librarian (Master's in Library Science Degree)

One Saturday and Sunday per month

  • Assists Library customers with the use of reference and circulation materials in print and electronic formats to respond to needs in a timely manner.
  • Answers questions directly by phone, in person, by fax, and by e‑mail to respond to patron needs in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and promotes the collection to provide the best resources for reference use.
  • Works effectively as part of a team to ensure quality service.
  • Prepares and conducts classes and tours to educate staff and customers in the use of reference materials.

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or other advanced degree

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift
  • Ability to bend to very low shelves or reach to very high shelves when retrieving Library materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Ability to push a full cart of books or other Library materials
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to operate various types of Library equipment
  • Ability to use a pc, word processing, and e‑mail
