Quartz graphics technologies are an essential component underlying the user experience of all Apple products, providing an intuitive interface to high quality text, path and image rendering, optimized to run efficiently on Apple Watch, iPhone, Mac and Vision Pro. Be a part of the team which drives critical technologies like PDF, ColorSync and Image I/O and is taking the lead on making High Dynamic Range (HDR) accessible to application developers. Description As engineering manager of the Core Graphics team, you will join us in developing future CoreGraphics, ImageIO and PDF features and APIs that impact all of Apple’s platforms. You will foster the growth, productivity, and well-being of your team — some more experienced and some less experienced than you — through the highs and lows of the creative process. You will be responsible for project planning, inter-team coordination, and delivery of your team’s features. You’ll take an active role in hiring to help grow a world-class and diverse team. To be effective you’ll need to build and maintain strong relationships with our numerous partner teams, and closely collaborate with sibling UI Framework teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers building and maintaining key components of the Core Graphics frameworks, including ImageIO, ColorSync and PDFKit

• Mentor engineers through feedback, coaching, and career development support

• Coordinate with partner teams working on SwiftUI for other platforms as well as other Mac UI Framework teams while planning and architecting new features

• Prioritize feature requests to maintain a balance of client requests, OS features, and framework quality

• Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture that supports productive discussion and clear decision-making

• Schedule and track deliverables to land and converge new features, understanding the dependencies with work on cross-functional teams

Minimum Qualifications

Experience with technical leadership and people leadership

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Experience with framework and API development

Bachelorʼs Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Strong programming, debugging, and design skills in Swift, C or C++.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong proficiency and familiarity with computer graphics and image processing fundamentals

• Familiarity with Color Management and HDR processing technique

• Experience with software based graphics and image formats like HEIC, TIFF, EXR

• Familiarity with common development and debugging tools for embedded/mobile applications

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $198,300 and $342,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
