Senior Higher Education Campus Planner/Designer
Job Summary: NBBJ is seeking a Senior Higher Education Campus Planner/Designer to lead transformative campus planning projects in higher education and healthcare.
Role will lead from early engagement to final delivery, presenting plans to senior leadership, conceptualizing spatial strategies, collaborating across practice, advocating sustainability, driving business development, and contributing thought leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as trusted advisor to higher education and/or healthcare clients, leading the planning process from early engagement through final delivery.
- Present plans and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholder groups.
- Translate client vision into actionable spatial strategies and conceptually design at varying scales.
- Collaborate with architects, designers, and strategists to translate client goals into planning insights.
- Advocate for integrated sustainability, resilience, and equity in all planning recommendations.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and support business development efforts.
- Support NBBJ’s thought leadership through speaking engagements, white papers, and industry forums.
- Monitor emerging trends and pedagogies in higher education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in higher education planning, healthcare and/or institutional strategy.
- Proven experience leading campus planning efforts for higher education and/or healthcare institutions.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in analog or digital sketching skills.
- AICP, PLA, AIA or other relevant professional certifications.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools or dashboards is a plus.
- Travel required (20–30%) to facilitate on‑site client workshops, campus assessments, and presentations.
- Must be based in the United States.
Compensation
Annual base pay range: $120,000 – $145,000 (actual compensation tailored to skills, qualifications and experience).
