Vice President – Digital – Creative Experience

Maximus is seeking a visionary Vice President – Digital – Creative Experience to guide our Experience practice into the future. The leader will refine our strategy, operating model, and long‑term plans for a dynamic, matrixed team dedicated to delivering outstanding user‑centered experiences across digital and analog channels for government customers in the United States, Canada, UK, and Saudi Arabia.

Based in our Princeton, New Jersey office, the role requires in‑office presence three days a week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Stay current on emerging UX trends, tools, and best practices in digital and analog experience design. Set creative and content vision tied to program outcomes.
  • Establish strategic direction for sub‑organization based on corporate and department strategy. Present findings and design decisions to executives.
  • Lead service‑design and research programs. Establish UX and IA standards and accessibility governance.
  • Direct content strategy and operations for accessible and branded content. Oversee translation, transcription, and transcreation quality. Manage SEO and programmatic media.
  • Partner with other Digital VPs to co‑create and deliver strategies and solutions.
  • Lead multiple teams of Directors/Senior Managers, and Managers.
  • Provide coaching and identify new opportunities for growth for direct reports. Mentor Creative and UX Senior Directors and Directors, Service Designers, and Researchers. Responsible for resource forecast, hiring, promotions, terminations, and performance management.
  • Define solutions, pricing, and shape competitive positioning for both market development and RFI/P responses. Present findings and design decisions to executives.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans. Budgeting and portfolio trade‑offs, financial stewardship, and scenario planning.
  • Perform quality reviews for large and/or complex initiatives. Manage risks and issues, mitigation, and resolution.
  • Communicate and influence senior executive leadership, stakeholders, vendors, and clients. Produce high‑quality executive‑ready messaging including presentations, briefs, memos.
  • Perform vendor evaluation, governance, and contract negotiations.
  • Typically leads multiple teams of directors/senior managers and/or managers.

Job Specific Essential Duties

  • Contribute to and communicate our creative and experience execution and delivery strategy, ensuring it aligns with corporate and departmental goals.
  • Bring a deep understanding of CX, EX, UX, service design, and inclusive research – both quantitative and qualitative, ensuring every interaction design is empathetic, data‑informed, and focused on real needs.
  • Modernize our creative function by leveraging skills and dedication of the current team while thoughtfully introducing modern CX practices, integrating AI, and adding talent and capabilities as needed.
  • Develop and implement an operating model that advances creative innovation and efficiency while enabling long‑term execution and seamless delivery across functions.
  • Partner with VP peers to review and enhance existing creative and experience processes, introducing automation and AI to drive a modern creative‑ops approach, and champion emerging UX trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and operations teams to align experience design with platform capabilities, content strategy, and delivery excellence.
  • Mentor and empower a multidisciplinary team, fostering growth and collaboration, and oversee, enhance, and integrate established functions such as UX, UI, service design, qualitative research, and accessibility.
  • Launch new functions, including quantitative research, SEO, and VUI design.
  • Stay ahead of experience trends and translate them into practical solutions for government programs that deliver modern experiences and interactions with measurable constituent and business outcomes.
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, and scenario planning, and lead/participate in vendor evaluation, governance, and contract reviews.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Design, HCI, Informatics, Library Science, Communications, or related.
  • 15+ years in digital experience or content in various manager and leader capacities.
  • 7+ years leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Portfolio of experience/creative work with measurable outcomes.
  • Executive presence and communication skills.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Certifications in UX and project management.
  • Experience with content platforms.
  • Experience with public sector communications needs, especially serving at‑risk populations with unique needs.
  • Proficient in budget management and resource allocation.

Pay Transparency & Benefits

Salary is $235,000.00–$265,000.00 annually. Compensation is based on factors including job location, candidate education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel, external market and internal value analysis, and merit systems. Additional rewards may include short‑ and long‑term incentives and program‑specific awards. Maximus offers health insurance, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off.
