Job Description Summary

As a Staff Experience Designer, you’ll shape how PayPal’s risk and data teams leverage artificial intelligence through the design of next‑generation, self‑serve tools and dashboards within our AI/ML‑powered Risk Intelligence Platform. You’ll turn complex machine‑learning capabilities into clear, intuitive experiences that empower both technical and non‑technical users to detect, prevent, and respond to fraud in real time. This role requires deep systems thinking and a talent for translating complex workflows into seamless, data‑rich interfaces that accelerate delivery, strengthen defenses, and build trust across the global ecosystem.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop plans to enhance the user and customer experience across our digital and physical products and meet team performance goals.
  • Execute complex customer experiences that require highly specialized user interface and product design knowledge and advanced business expertise.
  • Lead projects or programs within the product function and coordinate activities of others.
  • Design process, product, and service improvements based on business needs and industry trends.
  • Determine methods and procedures on new assignments that may impact activities of others.
  • Analyze business trends to inform user experience strategies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure user needs are prioritized in design processes.

Expected Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Responsibilities And Preferred Qualifications

  • Lead the design of self‑serve tools and dashboards that help PayPal’s risk and data teams detect, prevent, and respond to fraud in real time.
  • Translate complex AI and machine‑learning workflows into intuitive, transparent, and trustworthy user experiences.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and data science partners to shape platform strategy and deliver high‑quality design outcomes.
  • Simplify technical workflows by improving data discoverability and operational efficiency across teams.
  • Design frameworks and interaction patterns that make AI insights actionable for both technical and non‑technical users.
  • Champion usability, explainability, and human‑centered principles.
  • Contribute to PayPal’s design systems and best practices to ensure consistency and scalability across internal platforms.

What we’re looking for

  • 8+ years of experience in product design, with a focus on complex systems or enterprise tools.
  • Expertise in systems thinking, workflow design, and simplifying complex processes.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross‑functional partners in product, engineering, content, research, and data science.
  • Portfolio demonstrating excellence in end‑to‑end design, from strategy and prototyping to high‑quality execution.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills to influence both technical and executive audiences.
  • Passion for designing tools that empower users, build trust, and deliver measurable business impact.

Compensation & Benefits

Actual compensation is based on various factors including work location, skills, and experience. The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $152,500 to $262,350. This practice may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation as applicable), equity, and medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.
