About the Opportunity
The College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) at Northeastern University invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Network Science, located at the Boston campus. The position is aimed at candidates with a focus on social networks and sports, science communication, or related communication/media topics and qualified for a joint appointment between the Department of Communication Studies and a department within the College of Science. Potential collaboration with the Network Science Institute is also available.
The ideal candidate will conduct original research at the intersection of network science, communication, and media, and/or will advance computational communication research using network‑analysis approaches. In this role, the applicant will develop and teach core undergraduate and graduate courses in the communication studies degree programs. Research topics of interest include:
Sports media, fans or culture
Sports markets and identity
Sports teams and performance networks
Science translation and media ecosystems
Civic science, trust, and knowledge co‑creation networks
Science knowledge production and collaboration networks
The tenure and promotion process values collaborative research and teamwork. Hires are mentored for success with individualized and group guidance, and the university supports faculty development through the ADVANCE Office, Office of Research Development, and the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning Through Research.
To support new faculty, selected candidates may receive a 1‑ to 2‑year funded, mentored post‑doc fellowship to help establish their research programs before beginning the tenure track.
Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the communication studies programs, mentor students at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, maintain a strong interdisciplinary research program that attracts external funding and/or recognition, and participate in departmental, college, and university service. Candidates must be prepared to work with a global student population.
Qualifications Ph.D. in Communication Studies, Psychology, or a related field by the employment start date; demonstrated potential to attract external funding for research and/or creative practice.
