Job Description The Department of Music and Dance seeks to hire an Associate Professor of Music History (tenure track). The position is open to candidates with research and teaching expertise in any area of historical musicology, with preference for those whose expertise complements current faculty. This full‑time, nine‑month tenure‑track position will begin September 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

Maintain robust research activity of national and international stature.

Teach a 2/2 load (general education courses, undergraduate major/minor courses, and graduate seminars).

Supervise undergraduate and graduate research.

Serve on department, college, and university committees.

Serve on committees and boards of professional societies/organizations.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Music History, Musicology, or Historical Musicology with tenure award at a comparable institution.

Outstanding research and teaching records appropriate for a senior‑level appointment.

Record of service at the departmental/university level and in professional societies/organizations.

Experience teaching large general education classes and supervising graduate research is preferred.

Salary Information The salary range is $90,160 to $125,563. The low‑end reflects the minimum salary for the rank under the collective bargaining agreement, while the high‑end reflects a multiple‑year increase above the median salary within the department for faculty with more experience. Specific pay will be determined based on faculty rank and relevant certifications.

Benefits 9‑month academic year appointment at 100% FTE with full benefits. Expedited tenure process upon hiring. Position is dependent on available funding.
