Job Summary Are you a Principal Designer looking for a fresh start or a Senior Designer looking for the next step in your career? Madison, Wisconsin’s Sprinkman Design Collective is seeking a detail-oriented, driven, and friendly candidate to join our design team. The right person must be able to work on residential and light commercial interior design projects collaboratively and with confidence, project manage all active and incoming client projects, and contribute to the development and continued growth of our designers.

Job Responsibilities

Project Responsibilities

Onboarding

Lead Design Consults with potential clients

Create accurate scope documents and estimates to review with potential clients

Create aggressive, but achievable client timelines

Recommend appropriate contractor(s) for project as needed

Design

Document site conditions and measurements

Develop effective space plans that optimize layout and flow for functionality

Create Design Concepts that both highlight the clients’ design needs and preferences, and also adhere to Sprinkman’s design standards

Create Construction Documentation

Develop a holistic approach to designs that consider all aspects of a space and its contents

Source furniture, fixtures, finishes, and decor using online vendors, local suppliers, and partnerships with Interior Designers that meet established client preferences and maximize profits

Work closely with contractors to ensure design plans align with structural requirements, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing requirements.

Review, markup, request revisions, and approve shop drawings and submittals of samples.

Document specifications for Procurement Manager and contractors

Lead meetings with clients to present - and effectively sell - design recommendations

Maintain open communication with clients, providing regular updates and obtaining approvals at key milestones.

Procurement and Expediting

Perform thorough evaluation and cross checking of order information prior to submission to Procurement Manager or contractor

Build Execution

Lead walk thoughts with contractors from all disciplines

Respond to contractors quickly regarding questions on design specifics

Review on-site installation by contractors at critical junctures to ensure adherence to design

Installation through Completion

Lead installation efforts

Supervise and assist with professional photography of finished install

Staff Management and Mentorship

Help to grow Interior Designers’ knowledge through training, inclusion, and client deliverable assignments to work towards confidently and independently leading projects

Contribute to monthly trainings for Interior Designers to grow critical design knowledge

Provide feedback on Interior Designers on a regular basis to strategically and positively contribute to their development

Help designers set and achieve both short- and long-term goals

Share feedback with the team for ways to continue to improve the client experience

Red-line Designers’ plans and elevations

Work with the Director of Operations to interview, hire, and train new employees, guide the team in achieving common goals, invest in the growth and development of team members.

Project Management

Oversee multiple projects from schematic design through to completion, ensuring design quality and consistency.

Manage project deadlines, budgets, and project coordination.

Ensure quality control (QC) for client deliverables (drawings, presentations, proposals) prior to client-facing reviews.

Onboard new clients strategically based on current client timelines and employee workload.

Business Development

Set and maintain the firm’s creative and design vision

Secure new projects

Cultivate and manage relationships with clients

Meet with leadership to report on client statuses and larger company goals on established cadence

Work with the Director of Operations to identify financial goals and ensure projects are profitable and drive business growth.

Industry Knowledge

Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving consumer preferences within the interior design landscape. This includes familiarity with the latest materials, techniques, and technologies shaping the field and leveraging this knowledge to inform design decisions and stay ahead of the competition.

Participate in industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.

Contribute to the broader design community through speaking engagements, publications, or mentorship roles, showcasing thought leadership and credibility with the field.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture

7+ years full time work experience in the design industry, 2+ years in residential preferred

Strong knowledge of residential furniture, fixtures, finishes; including an understanding of materials, sizing, installation recommendations, ideal vendors, and more

Awareness and interest in timeless, luxurious design that is bespoke, and functional for our clients

NCIDQ certification a plus

Skills

Demonstrated ability to train more Designer

Proficient- to expert-level design software knowledge and experience for graphic design presentations, technical drawings and 3D modeling. May include: AutoDesk, Chief Architect, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Bluebeam

Proficient knowledge and application of local and national building codes, life safety standards, and accessibility requirements (like the ADA and ANSI) is crucial for creating functional and safe spaces.

Strong communication and problem solving skills

Financial analysis and budgeting abilities

Excel and Google Suite
