The Position The Director, Key Opinion Leader Strategy & Engagement will lead a team and critically shape KOL strategy & engagement across NN USO. They will be accountable for KOL and medical association identification, planning, and engagement strategies. They will develop competitive differentiation in NNI KOL strategies, set high standards, and establish/maintain a proactive market leadership position. This role will drive collaboration across functions to optimize KOL engagement (individually and via medical associations), ensure a consistent brand/therapy area vision and message, drive awareness and credibility for the company, and ultimately increase NN company and NN product endorsement and advocacy.

Relationships Reports to VP Portfolio & Pipeline Strategy. Responsible for providing interface with key external and internal stakeholders. Collaborates with counterparts across TAs and with cross‑functional teams, including sales, medical affairs, market access and policy/advocacy (MAPA), Global Commercial, regulatory affairs, other relevant NNI departments.

Essential Functions

Identify, define and refine KOL- and association‑targets from and for NN TAs/Disease Areas

Define and execute pre‑launch and launch KOL‑and association‑related brand/therapy area strategic objectives

KOL Experience Strategy: Lead the execution of KOL experience strategies and ensure transparent communication with stakeholders outside the department. Actively manage the process to drive consistent execution across all channels

Strategic Planning: Identify competitive obstacles and implement strategic actions to drive brand/therapy area success. Develop and present compelling plans for endorsement

Global Collaboration: Execute partnerships with global colleagues on brand/therapy area strategies and key decisions

KOL Engagement and Early Market Education: Design and execute KOL engagement strategies that build advocacy and support for the brand/therapy area. Lead specific early market education initiatives to effectively prepare the market

Thought Leadership Programming: Oversee the development and execution of thought leadership programs, educational initiatives, and advisory boards with KOLs

KOL Interaction and Communication: Facilitate scientific communications between internal stakeholders and KOLs, ensuring mutual understanding of NNI products, pipeline developments, and emerging healthcare trends

Learning Event Coordination: Strategically coordinate participation in scientific conferences, symposia, and other relevant events to enhance visibility, brand knowledge, and direct engagement with KOLs

Measuring Performance: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and a detailed measurement plan to assess the success of omnichannel and KOL experience strategies. Continuously analyze the effectiveness of HCP/KOL engagement tactics, optimizing execution to enhance customer interactions with NNI. Make data‑driven recommendations for ongoing improvement. Identify and implement actionable improvements

Budget Management: Ensure effective management of the marketing budget to optimize resource allocation and drive impactful strategies. Regularly evaluate resource utilization to achieve productivity goals and departmental profitability

Physical Requirements Up to 50% overnight travel.

Development of People Supervisory.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred

10+ years of experience including progressively responsible experience within sales, brand management/marketing experience within the pharmaceutical industry required

Proven knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, including medical, regulatory, clinical processes and market dynamics, within cardiometabolic area required

HCP marketing experience leading brand/therapy area strategy development and driving impactful customer experiences is required

Proven success in developing strategy through expert understanding of market and industry

Ability to manage complexity, including the leadership of work across competing priorities

Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable marketing strategies to guide customer experiences

Strong understanding of regulatory, compliance, and ethical considerations in engaging with healthcare providers

Proven track record of successful KOL relationship management and strategic collaboration

HCP KOL marketing experience leading brand strategy development and driving impactful customer experiences is required

Proven track record of innovative market tactics/high impact results (based on metrics/ROI)

Outstanding planning and organizational skills with exceptionally high attention to quality of detail and proven track record of results and follow up

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate with cross‑functional teams across the organization as well as strong aptitude to build rapport and credibility with external customers

Embodies leadership behaviors, including authenticity, servant leadership, will, empathy, decisiveness, a growth mindset, and driving focus and simplicity

Experience with management of outside agencies

Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others

People management experience required, with a proven track record of development and coaching

The base compensation range for this position is $181,670 to $317,920. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance. Novo Nordisk offers long‑term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position’s level or other company factors. Employees are also eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs including medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; disability insurance; 401(k) savings plan; flexible spending accounts; employee assistance program; tuition reimbursement program; and voluntary benefits such as group legal, critical illness, identity theft protection, pet insurance and auto/home insurance.
