Senior Vice President, Public Affairs & Communications
Base pay range: $180,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr
Marathon Strategies’ communications practice provides high profile political, nonprofit and corporate clients with strategic counsel on how to build, manage and protect their reputation to support their business objectives.
The Senior Vice President is responsible for leading and implementing strategic communications programs on behalf of clients across a variety of different industries. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Client Management
Provides strategic counsel to C-suite and senior-level clients, guiding them through public affairs and corporate communications challenges
Understands clients’ business strategy and reputational goals and ensures Marathon’s services align with client's communication objectives
Manages a portfolio of clients, taking accountability for client deliverables, quality of work product, profitability and growth
Develops creative public affairs and communications strategies for clients
Develops and implements an “action plan” for each client
Works with top tier reporters and engage third parties during public affairs and corporate communications campaigns
Where needed, plays a role in building and mobilizing coalitions
Writes and/or oversees the production of materials such as press releases, op-eds, reports, memos, and presentations
Works with research, creative and digital to integrate services into public affairs and corporate communications plans
Directs account staff in execution of client deliverables and provides timely performance feedback
Mentors and develops talent at all levels, fostering high-performance culture
New Business Development
Actively involved in pursuing and pitching new business opportunities & developing proposals for the Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Practices
Accountable for identifying and executing upsell opportunities within portfolio of clients
Job Requirements
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent political campaign or issue advocacy experience required
At least 15 years experience in public affairs, political campaigns, issue advocacy, corporate communication or related fields, with proven track record in leadership roles
Strong understanding of New York City and New York State politics
Demonstrated track record in leading complex public affairs and corporate communications campaigns
Strong influencing skills and the ability to drive change across organization
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Demonstrated business acumen: aware of bottom line impact of initiatives; able to prioritize on basis of cost and financial trade-offs
Strong project management skillset, ability to establish multiple project plan timelines, milestones and execute them on time and within budget
Advanced verbal and written communication skills such that they are able to deal with executive leaders and clients independently
Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with business leadership, peers, and employees
